News: the PoE-Sea+, the new version of the PoE-Sea

Since September 2025, the PoE-Sea has been replaced by the PoE-Sea+. This new version is connected with the EnOcean protocol: an EnOcean USB key on your workstation lets you take control of the PoE-Sea+ to set it up and update it, without connecting to it physically. The switches can also be paired simply from the PoE-Sea Master utility, by scanning their QR code. The new PoE-Sea Master stays compatible with the older versions of the PoE-Sea.

The PoE-Sea+ also fits into an IoT ecosystem, to collect the environmental data of the classrooms with CO2, temperature and energy consumption sensors: new teaching resources for the teachers, as graphs to illustrate their lessons on the ecological transition.

Installation

All the Wi-Fi access points powered by PoE (PoE, PoE+ and PoE++), whatever the brand. The PoE-Sea+ is placed on the network cable between the PoE switch and the access point.

No. The SSID, the passwords, the VLANs and the configuration of the access points do not change. Each PoE-Sea+ is connected with a short network cable, and the switches are placed without cable.

No. The EnOcean switches produce the energy of the radio message when you press them. They are placed on the wall or on a desk, and there is nothing to maintain.

The PoE-Sea Link connects the PoE-Sea+ of a building to the cloud service, through the network of the school. One PoE-Sea Link is enough for many PoE-Sea+ in range of its radio, and a PoE-Sea+ can repeat the radio messages to reach further.

Use in the classroom

As long as you choose: the delay before switching off is set per PoE-Sea+, in seconds or in minutes. A press on off switches the access point off at once.

Not if you don't want it: the weekly schedule can lock the switches during the breaks, after school and on weekends, and unlock them at the start of the lessons.

Yes. The paired switches, the settings and the weekly schedule are stored in the PoE-Sea+ itself, which has its own clock. The cloud service is used to change the settings and to see the statistics.

Yes. The PoE-Sea+ can switch the access point on automatically at a regular interval, for a minimum time, or you can switch it on remotely from the cloud service.

Management

Go to frontend.poe-sea.no, or use the button Log in at the top of this page. New users can register on the login page, and Forgot password? helps you if you have forgotten your password.

All the PoE-Sea Link of the municipality are linked to the account, and the PoE-Sea+ are grouped by building. The dashboard and the statistics can be filtered per school, and the configuration can be exported and imported.

Each user has a role: a visitor sees everything without changing anything, a user changes the settings of the PoE-Sea+, and an administrator also adds PoE-Sea Links and organises the buildings.

The software of the PoE-Sea+ is updated from the cloud service, through the PoE-Sea Link. An update takes 5 to 15 minutes, and the Wi-Fi works as before afterwards.

Data and security

The events of the equipment: when a switch is pressed, when the Wi-Fi is switched on and off, restarts and technical status. PoE-Sea does not see the traffic of the network and stores no data about the pupils.

Multiply the number of access points by their power and by the hours where they are off. Example: 30 access points of 10 W, on only 1 300 hours a year instead of 8 760, save about 2 200 kWh a year.

A network that is off cannot be attacked or used without permission. Outside school hours there is no Wi-Fi to break into from outside the building, and the event log shows when it was switched on.

PoE-Sea Master

You can set a period of Wi-Fi activation, for example every Wednesday from 9:00 to 13:00, and deactivate the switches during this period so that nobody switches the Wi-Fi off. By default, with an automatic switch-off delay of 90 minutes, the access points would switch off at 10:30. To avoid this, untick « Delay » on the line « Switch on »: the access points stay on until 13:00, when the Wi-Fi is switched off and the switches are active again.

The configuration of a PoE-Sea+ can be saved and loaded in an XML file, to make the roll-out easier: click « File » then « Save (or load) the configuration ».

When the PC is connected to the PoE-Sea+, the PoE-Sea+ takes the time of your system. In some test set-ups it is useful to switch this off: click « File » then « Preferences », and untick « Update the date and time ».
