PoE-LiFi: Trulifi by Signify and MIELA
Li-Fi: communicating with LED light, visible or invisible, is now a high-performance wireless alternative.
PoE-Tic has chosen to integrate the new range of Li-Fi systems of Signify. Under the Trulifi brand, several devices make it possible to build a Li-Fi infrastructure, from the coverage of a meeting room to a whole floor of offices.
And for the schools, MIELA: a mobile Li-Fi device, 100 % compliant with the Abeille law, which moves from one classroom to another.
Discover MIELAWhy Li-Fi
Performance
Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) uses visible or infrared LEDs to send and receive data, with a bandwidth that can reach or exceed 150 Mbps.
Security
Outside the cone of Li-Fi light, and even more beyond the walls, the data can no longer be exchanged, unlike Wi-Fi: the integrity of the data is guaranteed on sensitive sites (law firm, meeting room of a large group, nuclear power plant, military building).
Reliability
Wi-Fi shows its limits with many radio sources or electromagnetic disturbances, such as in an industrial environment, while Li-Fi is not sensitive to them. With a roaming function like Wi-Fi, Li-Fi gives M2M and IoT systems a higher availability and a continuous service.
Sobriety of the waves
In nurseries, maternity wards, sensitive areas of hospitals (MRI) and in schools, radio emissions are feared or even forbidden. Li-Fi offers wireless connections without any radio waves.
The Li-Fi of Signify: the choice of excellence
With more than 64 million connected light points and 6.2 billion euros of turnover in 2019, the Dutch company Signify, the former Philips Lighting, is number one in conventional, LED and connected lighting.
How a Trulifi installation works
Connected to the network, a management device (Trulifi Access Point 6002.1) drives one to six transmitters/receivers (Trulifi Transceiver 6002.1), placed in the false ceiling (with or without a lighting panel) or mounted on the mobile Li-Fi device MIELA.
For each Access Point, up to sixteen workstations with a USB key (Trulifi USB Key 6002.1) can connect to the network through the transceivers.
MIELA: the mobile Li-Fi, 100 % compliant with the Abeille law
Laurence Abeille gave her name to the law on the sobriety of the waves, passed in 2015 when she was a member of parliament. Article 7 of the law no. 2015-136 of 9 February 2015 says that:
- no fixed terminal equipment with wireless access to the internet may be installed in the spaces for the reception, rest and activities of children under three;
- in the classrooms of primary schools, the wireless access is switched off when it is not used for digital teaching activities;
- in primary schools, any new radio network is announced beforehand to the school council.
To limit the work on the lighting system, PoE-Tic designed a device that combines BPL G.hn and Li-Fi from Signify. Called MIELA (Mobile Internet Extranet LiFi Access), it is a foldable floor lamp on wheels, easily moved from one classroom to another to connect the digital equipment used by the pupils.
How MIELA works
MIELA is connected to the network with the wall RJ45 sockets if the school is cabled, or otherwise over the electrical wiring, with a powerline adapter built into MIELA: it is enough to plug it into an electrical socket to have broadband access to the network and the internet.
The powerline receiver is connected in IP (RJ45) to a Li-Fi controller (Trulifi Access Point 6002.1), which manages the two Li-Fi transceivers (Trulifi 6002.1) at the top of the mobile device. The wireless connection covers about 15 m² and allows sixteen workstations at the same time. On the user side, a USB key (Trulifi USB Key 6002.1) links the computer to one of the two transceivers.
